Link Up provides a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with a live performance. Students in grades 3–5 are given the opportunity to join the orchestra in this highly participatory program, in which they learn to sing and play an instrument in the classroom and perform with a professional orchestra from their seats at a culminating concert at the Koger Center for the Arts. 2020 program details

Melody is one of the universal elements of music. Composers and musicians create melodies, which can be sung or played on instruments. The orchestra sings when its musicians play melodies on their instruments. Through the Link Up repertoire, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with a professional orchestra, we will discover how the orchestra sings.

Young people in the audience will sing and play their recorder along to the music of the orchestra. We explore how composers and orchestras use melodies to sing, drawing on selected orchestra repertoire.
